WINOL Dummy Edition Feedback

The first WINOL of the academic year was, I think, pretty successful. The only things which could be improved upon were largely things which will come with experience, for example remembering to check the white balance or making a package more interesting by zooming in or walking, etc.

The only thing about the package that I thought looked particularly unprofessional was in the package about train tickets, in the shot of the train station the camera jolted a lot and I feel that this should have either been re-shot or taken out of the peice completely.

When Chris was going through the de-brief of the dummy edition he made the point that it is always important to give different angles of a story. For example, in the piece about cigarette vending machines, the other angles could have been to ask health professionals what they think about it, or what smokers think about it - although the interview with the pub manager was relevant, there could have been more sides to the story.

I thought Louis' interview in the car park was good because the car park was completely relevant to the story, although I thought that the interview went on too long and I quickly lost interest.

Chris also explained how important it is to do something with your hands while on screen, something which Cara did really well and I think that is something that will come naturally with time for the second year students.

Overall I thought the dummy edition went really well especially because it was the first time that the second year student had produced packages or presented.
